Town Hall / City Hall

The Town Hall of Ponferrada is one of the city’s most representative and oldest buildings, and a symbol of its history and tradition. Located in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, in the very heart of the old town, this impressive Renaissance building has served as the city’s administrative center for centuries.

Construction of the Town Hall began in the 17th century and, over the years, it has undergone several renovations that have preserved its original essence while incorporating new architectural elements. The building consists of three floors and stands out for its elegant architecture and remarkable beauty.

The main façade, facing the square, features a symmetrical and sober structure, with rectangular windows and a large heraldic coat of arms at the top representing the city.

Around the square, the building forms part of a historic ensemble that includes other architectural landmarks of Ponferrada, such as the Arch of the Eras, the Clock Tower and the Basilica of La Encina.

In addition to its historical and architectural value, the Town Hall continues to play an active role as the seat of the Ponferrada City Council and remains a meeting point for residents and visitors. Its central location makes it a key place for understanding the evolution of Ponferrada and its role in the Bierzo region.

Today, the Town Hall of Ponferrada is not only an administrative center but also an important tourist attraction, ideal for those wishing to learn more about the past and present of this fascinating city.
